Automatic watering from a plastic bottle: a method for those who visit the country once a week

When the garden is in the country, watering becomes problematic. It's good when it rains and nature gives plants a chance. But what if the weather is dry and hot or the plants are in a greenhouse? In this case, autowatering will help, which can be easily made from a five-liter plastic bottle. How to do it - read on. What is needed to make automatic irrigation

This method is perfect for watering tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, peppers and many other vegetable crops.

To organize autowatering you will need:

• five-liter plastic bottles based on one container for two bushes;
• construction sand;
• sewing needle or thin awl;
• pliers and a lighter.

What should be done

First of all, you need to make three holes on two opposite sides of the plastic bottle. The holes should be located at a distance of one centimeter from the bottom of the container. You need to pierce the holes with a thin awl or sewing needle. For easy and convenient piercing of plastic, the tip of the tool should be heated with a lighter.

Next, you need to dig a hole between the bushes and install a bottle in it. The depth of the pit is ½ of the height of the bottle. The holes should be directed towards the plants. There should be a 3–5 cm gap between the walls of the hole and the sides of the perforated bottle. Sand drainage should be done in this gap. This is necessary so that the holes are not clogged with earth.

Automatic watering is ready! It remains only to pour water and be sure to tighten the lid tightly. Five liters is enough for about a week. Some types of highly soluble fertilizers or groundbaits can be added to the water. For example, you can add a little potassium permanganate to kill pathogenic bacteria in the soil.

The advantages of this method

With this method of irrigation, the surface remains practically dry. And in dry soil weeds grow less and insects do not like to settle. This type of autowatering is especially suitable for greenhouses.
