What to do to get an early and rich harvest of zucchini

click fraud protection

Zucchini are planted by many gardeners, from which you can cook various delicious dishes. To get an early and generous harvest of this crop, you need to pay attention to the following conditions.

Varieties

For an early harvest, it is best to choose hybrid varieties. They will have few leaves and many fruits. For example, an early hybrid Amelia F1, Apollo F1, Olanga F1. But ordinary early ripening varieties, for example, Tsukesha, are also suitable.

Drop off time

Zucchini can be sown in mid-May in unprotected soil with germinated seeds (shoots appear on days 4-5) or planted as seedlings after May 20 (for the middle lane). Thus, the sooner the seedlings appear, the earlier the harvest will be.

Therefore, many summer residents and gardeners grow zucchini by seedlings, plants are planted in beds at the age of 25-30 days. This makes it possible to get fruits 3-4 weeks faster.

The first zucchini appear mainly 55-60 days after germination, depending on the variety (hybrids and 38-45 days). If you plant 30 day old seedlings in a permanent place, you can harvest in a couple of weeks.

The soil

Zucchini belong to the Pumpkin family. They grow well in neutral and fertile soils. Therefore, you need to take care of introducing organic matter and dolomite flour (chalk) into the soil.

Landing scheme

Also, these plants do not like thickening. In this case, a large harvest should not be expected. Due to poor ventilation, the ovaries will rot. The landing pattern is 60 by 60 cm. The depth of the hole should be at least 15-20 cm.

What to add to the hole

Add 2 tbsp to the dug hole. tablespoons of ash, a little humus and compost. All organic matter must be mixed with a spatula with the ground. Before planting seedlings, it must be shed with water. It is impossible to deepen the shoots above the cotyledonous leaves, otherwise the young plant may rot.

What to do after landing

After planting in open ground, zucchini must be watered with warm water. Then you need to wait until the moisture is absorbed and sprinkle with compost or weeds, which will serve as mulch. This will prevent the soil from drying out in the hole.

For better survival, young plants can be covered with plastic bottles.

10 days after planting, the zucchini should be fertilized with green fertilizer, which must be prepared in advance in a barrel (another container). It will give an impetus to the growth of green mass and the establishment of ovaries in the future.
