Many are interested in whether it is possible to deploy a profitable production in the courtyard of a private house? We answer - yes, you can, there are many options for such a business. But why, then, do many burn out already in the first year of work? Our interlocutor Sergey, who has been producing interior doors in his country house for more than 10 years, will tell about this.

Briefly about your business

I make interior doors. My production is located right at my place of residence. For this, I built two rooms in the yard. One production facility - 60 sq. meters; another warehouse - 90 sq. meters.

I don't have much equipment and it is not very complicated. These are several assembly tables, a glass cutting table, two drilling machines (one horizontal drilling with a movable bed), a saw table, a pair of circulars, screwdrivers and a weight of a carpentry tool.

I order everything necessary for the assembly of doors - MDF, fittings and glass from factories. The material is delivered by a transport company directly to production. Then all this is unloaded to the warehouse, and then goes into business.

Workers cut blanks (boxes, drawers, panels, platbands, glass) and assembly begins. The assembly is very simple - no more difficult than a children's constructor. Two people have a plan - 20 doors a day. The working week is five days, but if they wish, people can go out on Saturdays - I do not interfere with this.

The monthly plan for a couple of workers is 520 doors. I have a salary of 150 rubles per hour. They work 8 hours a day, I do not pay for the lunch hour. When developing a plan (real!), Employees receive 31 thousand rubles a month. When the plan is overfulfilled, they receive 35-38 thousand. For our town with a population of 170 thousand people, this is a very decent salary.

I have not had any downtime lately, the products are being sold well - I supply doors to developers and to several large retail construction networks.

I myself earn 270 rubles from each door if it is sold in bulk. A spark of two smart workers who carry out the 520 door plan gives me a net income of 140 thousand rubles a month.

I'm talking about the very minimum and if there is no force majeure. My workshop produces about 700 doors per month, which gives me a profit of 190 thousand rubles per month. Then there is retail and installation, which also generate income. I speak honestly about my work, as I pay taxes and do not deceive people. My employees are paid once a week. It would seem that everything is fine, but ...

The human factor is the main problem of business

Regular staff turnover spoils everything. During the entire existence of my business, only two people stayed with me for more than two years. And I'm not to blame for this. Let me explain why.

I conventionally divide hired workers into three categories: young; men from 30 to 45 years old; pensioners. Each category has its own characteristics. I'll start with the young ones.

The youth

The modern young man is most concerned not with his salary, but with his status. He is full of dreams and hopes. Even if he has no education, he thinks of himself as special. He is ashamed to be a door gatherer. He doesn't want to be trained in a blue-collar profession. He wants to be a manager. In general, he wants a lot without being able to do anything!

The youth work for me as if in a suitcase mood. They drive a lot of marriage, often get offended and quit. Most of those who passed through me quit because of the mythical “good” job in the office or the prospect of their business. I have not seen any of my former young workers who made a successful career.

30-45 years old

This age category goes to workers, because all the chances to realize themselves in other matters are hopelessly missed. They don't know much, they are often lazy and drink (sometimes even at work). Such people can start a fire in the workshop, and cut off their fingers in a round of drunkenness. In 70% of cases, workers in this age category do not go to work after their paycheck - they are in a binge.

After the binge they come, ask for another chance, promise not to fail again. Often they come to ask back with their wives, beg, refer to a difficult financial situation. But often this all repeats itself after a month. After the second time, I don’t take it back. These are people of last chance. I don't need those like that. I didn't ruin their lives!

Retirees

These are my magic wands. They work well, they do not chase the marriage, but all this happens extremely slowly. The plan is almost always not coped with. They are trying to earn an increase in their pension of 20 thousand and not ruin their health. They often get sick, quit for health reasons.

In general, in all this whirlwind, no one lingers for a long time. There are smart guys, but they know the value of their work and want to receive a decent wage, as well as have a social package and other benefits. I cannot give this, and they leave.

These are the problems in my home business. Yes, they probably are in any enterprise. If we could hire robots, we would probably have gotten rich a long time ago... The human factor and the inability to manage people is the main reason for ruin in the first year of the existence of a business.
