Facade painting is, first of all, the application of a protective film that cuts off the wall material or its coating from precipitation and temperature effects. And also the paintwork prevents the appearance of mold, mildew, algae. Therefore, these works must be performed as efficiently as possible. How to check the quality of painting of a plastered facade - read on.

What is it for

First of all, this is necessary for those who hire painters from outside to perform painting work. The quality of their work must be monitored so as not to waste money and repair the facade after two or three years of operation. Hired a team - don't pay them all the money at once. Leave the calculation for later, when you make sure that there are no unpainted areas on the facade.

How to find unpainted areas

The point is that a freshly painted plastered facade can look perfect. But at the same time, defects on it can still be and they need to be identified immediately. This will require water and a way to supply it to the wall. The wall should be moistened with plenty of water. This can be done either with a hose or with a garden spray.

When the painted wall gets wet, the non-painted walls will stand out with distinct dark spots. That is, unpainted areas will be darker than the general background. On light colors it will be clearly noticeable; on the dark ones - not very much, but you can see it. Thus, unpainted areas are identified and the overall quality of the painting work is determined.

This procedure should not be carried out immediately after painting, but when the paintwork is completely dry - that is, the process of film formation will take place and the solvents will evaporate from the composition; if these are water-soluble paints, then wait for the formation of a strong film. In time it is two or three days.

But that's not all - the full picture will be revealed during the evaporation of moisture from the wall.

Let's say there were some non-beautiful ones. But this only applies to the quality and technology of paint application. You also need to see how the wall dries. If it dries unevenly - some of the stains have dried up, and some have remained - this may indicate that the plaster was also poorly primed before painting. And this is even worse than unpainted.

And if the plastered surface simply absorbed water and dries for a long time, it means that it was not primed at all. This is fraught with the fact that the plaster will actively absorb moisture and collapse at low temperatures. The conditions for this are very simple: it rained during the day, and frost hit at night - a common weather for late autumn. A couple of years of such exploitation and - goodbye to plaster!

What is a primer for?

Many, including builders, believe that priming is not necessary before painting. But painting without a primer is a waste of money.

A primer (primer) is a dispersion of film-forming substances based on water or mineral solvents. The composition creates a film with deep penetration into the material. Primers are intended for the primary treatment of the substrate (concrete, brick, plaster, old paint).

It is difficult to overestimate the benefits of the primer. Firstly, it improves the adhesion of paint to the surface, binds and strengthens fragile materials, and also makes the base waterproof. Secondly, due to the filling of microcracks and pores on the painted surface, it saves paint consumption. And the color lays on the primer more evenly, without stains. Thirdly, the primer contains antiseptics that prevent the development of fungus and mold.

So if some parts of the wall soared moisture and, accordingly, dry longer, then it means that it was primed anyhow. We will not give advice on how to deal with such painters, but we will recommend excellent high-quality paints and primers on mineral surfaces, as well as a number of products for construction and repair.
