"Don't hang anything on aerated concrete!" - many people think. How did I mount the console and chimney? (tens of kilograms for simple fasteners).
Probably, people who consider aerated concrete to be a terrible material for construction will never run out. And most of all I am amused by one argument that is made in favor of their theory: "You can't hang anything heavy on aerated concrete ..." Well, let's see ...
Friends are glad to welcome you. When only pallets with aerated concrete arrived at my site, I immediately realized that this, to put it mildly, is not the most durable material.
On the way, some blocks were rubbed and crumbled ...
In the process of laying, looking at how the blocks are easily sawn and rubbed with a float, it seemed more and more that this was some kind of material completely unsuitable for construction...
However, the walls have been erected and are successfully performing their function.
✅ Exactly the function that is required of them.
Withstanding the compressive load is the key.
And when they start to show how aerated concrete is poked and crumbled with your fingers, then this has nothing to do with reality (hardly anyone will come to you to rub the walls down to holes ...)
But there is a controversial issue close to reality.
Many people believe that it is impossible to hang something heavy on an aerated concrete wall without the use of some unrealistic reinforcements.
One of the latest examples in my house is the installation of a chimney.
- To install it, I welded a console from a steel corner. By weight, it turned out to be about 12 kg.
- In this case, the chimney, consisting of 4 sections (each 8 kg) weighed 32 kg.
❗ And all these 44 kg should be kept on the aerated concrete wall.
For installation, I used a completely ordinary fastener.
- These are dowels for aerated concrete, designed for screws 10 mm thick. And here the main thing is to arrange them correctly, and in the right amount.
- An additional sealant was applied to the console itself, for waterproofing, and a tighter fit.
- All that remained was to install everything, and fasten all the screws ...
- I immediately checked the strength of the console attachment with my weight. It holds my 78 kilograms ...
- Well, the chimney, respectively, will stand securely.
So the story about "bad fasteners in aerated concrete" can be deleted ...
It's all about the number of fasteners, and its correct installation.
