The armature now has the cost of non-ferrous metal, if we compare prices today and several years ago. Whoever builds will understand. Therefore, everything goes to work. And if it is rusty, which has lain for more than one month? I will give my example of effective cleaning of reinforcement from rust.
I needed to pour piles under the terrace foundation (for which I will tell you in a separate article). Remained a few rods of reinforcement with a diameter of 8 mm. But she was originally brought in a rusty state. For the reinforcing frames of the overlap, I cleaned it with a cord brush on a grinder. But this is still something to do.
I cut the rods to the required length and tied the pile frames. I remembered about such chemistry as a rust converter. In a company where I often visit (selling industrial chemicals and paints in our city) I bought it for 43 rubles. bottle 0.35 l
Odorless pink liquid. Based on phosphoric acid. I did not believe in the greater effectiveness of the tool. Applied with a brush to the reinforcement.
A wet look of rusty metal appeared, as if wet in the rain. But literally a few minutes later it became clear that the reddish bloom from the metal disappeared, the color of the metal without rust appeared. And where the agent reacted, there was a white coating of some kind of salt.
If the rust has a thick and loose layer, it must be removed with a brush before application. After the reaction, a phosphate film remains on the metal, which is a corrosion inhibitor when pouring with concrete or painting the metal.

This is not an advertisement for this particular brand. All products containing phosphoric acid and corrosion inhibitors work effectively.
By the way, professional builders who build important objects know about this tool. For example, in our city, from December 2020 the construction of an overpass across the highway was frozen. Prices have risen over these months and it was necessary to agree on new estimates or even conduct new state sales. For six months, the fittings, of course, have become rusty. Passing by recently, I saw that the construction was resumed, the builders continued to fill the bridge supports. And the fittings are already like new, but in the same white patina as mine. I immediately understood how they cleaned it.
So, who needs to clean something from rust - take note. This is better than cleaning metal with a grinder. The rust converter will be especially convenient in hard-to-reach places.
