There are such things that you just don't even think about. "How can a window be without a frame?" Previously, even such a thought did not arise until I saw that some craftsmen are installing double-glazed windows directly into the walls. Became interesting...

Friends, everyone is a huge hello. As they say, "after a fight, they don't wave their fists," so I installed windows in my house under construction last spring. And now what to reason and talk about this ???

I learned that double-glazed windows can be installed directly in the opening, without frames. I wonder why, so far, this method is not very popular?

But interest in something unusual, you can't stick it anywhere, and you won't pass by.

This is how I could not walk past the frameless glazing.

At first glance, this is something new, unusual, and modern (well, what they usually lure with). But from my experience in building a house, I know perfectly well that there are always unpleasant nuances.

The topic of frameless glazing can be immediately divided into two large groups:

1️⃣ Frameless glazing of balconies and terraces is one thing.

And all the advantages here are located in the area of visual perception.

Beautiful, stylish, unusual. A lot of light, a visual increase in the interior space.

But when it comes to practice, then everything is not so rosy.

  • No tightness. Accordingly, one should not talk about the warmth inside the premises (these are always cold balconies or terraces).
  • Roller structures need care and maintenance (in the event that the glass is sliding, which is very common).

  • You can't even put a mosquito net on.
  • And of course the price. In this case, special glass (impact-resistant) is used, which is much more expensive than those in ordinary windows.

That is, we get a beautiful, but little-functional picture ...

2️⃣ Another issue is solid glazing with double-glazed windows.

This option is closer to real life.

  • As in the previous version, the increased clearance.
From my own experience, I saw how the window opening decreases when a window with a frame is mounted in it. Out of inexperience, I did not take this into account, and the windows in my house seem a little small ...
  • Thermal efficiency. In ordinary windows, it is the plastic frame that is the weakest point in terms of keeping warm in the house. Accordingly, if we remove it, then we increase energy efficiency.
  • Simple installation. It differs little from the installation of ordinary windows, so we can do it with our own hands (of course, provided that it is small).
For example, I found it in Yandex Pictures. It is quite fashionable to mount it yourself.

  • Low cost. After all, it is the frame that makes up the significant cost of the entire window. And with the recent rise in the price of metal, windows will also be more expensive, precisely because of the metal reinforcement of the profile.

But as I said, there is nowhere without a fly in the ointment:

✔ If damaged, replace it as a whole.

✔ Expensive sealants used during installation (and here it is definitely not necessary to save money)

✔ You run out of warranty when you install it yourself.

✔ At the same time, fixed glazing is generally the lack of the possibility of ventilating the room. But the need to flip the sash of the window arises constantly (although if you think about it, then ventilation can be organized in other ways).

So a dilemma arises ...

In such contradictions, between clear advantages and significant disadvantages, more often than not, the bowl outweighs in the direction of rejection of such ideas.

Probably that's why, for now, frameless glazing not very popular in Russia, where they are accustomed to old, old-fashioned, time-tested technologies. But personally, I take all this into account, maybe I'm not building the last house ...
