When it seemed that the renovation in the bathroom "will come off anyway"

click fraud protection

The repair takes about 3 years. High-tech does not pull, of course, but everything is convenient and functional. And then one day the owner, standing by the window in the kitchen, notices on the wall adjacent to the bathroom, a grayish-yellowish wet spot from the floor and half a meter up. At first there was a slight fear that the water supply or heating somewhere at the junction had leaked, but then it became clear that neither one nor the other was to blame, since the pipes there were new and without adhesions. What then?

After scratching the back of the head for a while, the "commission" figured out that the problem was the state of the grout in the bathroom. The fact is that the joint between the shower tray and the tiles was sealed with grout, not sealant!!! The grout crumbled over time and began to gradually let water into the wall.

Water flowing down the wall while the shower was on fell into the gap at the junction and slowly soaked through the brick wall! Although its thickness is only a quarter of a brick, it still needed a lot of moisture and it had to flow for a long time.

By the way, the inter-tile seams on this wall from below began to become covered with a yellowish bloom much earlier and slightly moldy, which was noticed, but it was not possible to explain the phenomenon clearly.

The grout from the abutment seams had to be completely scraped out with a chisel and cleaned of dust. And when the pallet was ripped off, the guess was confirmed, as convincingly indicated by the damp wall and the wet brick stand under the pallet. On the other wall, the picture was similar, only it was more difficult to notice, since the wall is thick and goes out onto the stairs.

IMPORTANT! Of great importance was the fact that the pallet was cut into the wall by about 2 cm and there were no tiles behind it. If the tiles had been laid down, such a problem would not have arisen, or it would have immediately made itself felt.

I think it would be a little more and the neighbors from below came to visit and told, "why in Odessa roofing material." It's good that everything was discovered not too late, and ended with little damage. The joint had to be properly sealed with sanitary silicone. The seams have yet to be cleaned as the walls dry. The wallpaper in the kitchen has suffered irreparable damage and will be replaced.

And it seemed that everything was done correctly and no one could think of such a thing. Conclusion: if you know how, do the right thing right away! And do not rely on three "whales" of the domestic economy: "maybe", "I suppose" and "somehow".
