I installed a chimney with a horizontal section. They say this is the worst decision. Why is it not worth being afraid of (there are nuances)?

Now, of course, many will say that a sandwich is not a chimney at all, but I still chose this option. Plus, there is a meter-long horizontal section on which many put a cross. But I think that everything is not so sad ...

Friends, I am glad to welcome you. While some "experts" write to me in the comments to the articles that my chimney is bad and will not work, I am already warming up and continue building my house.

And so, let's analyze the controversial points.

I will not talk about the manufacturer, metal thickness, etc. It's about the design.

✅ From the furnace itself there is a starting chimney, 1 meter high. This is a conventional single wall construction (not a sandwich). And this is the maximum of a non-insulated chimney that can stand on long-burning stoves.

Many advised me to run an ordinary chimney inside the house, as high as possible (they say it will give all the heat into the house and more efficiency of the stove), and already somewhere under the roof switch to a sandwich and bring it outside. And also savings (after all, a sandwich is the most expensive).

👆 But a long burning stove is a special thing. In the smoldering mode (and this is the operating mode that should be used for the maximum amount of time, and not an open flame), the gases already have a low temperature, and the longer the single-wall chimney, the faster they will give off their heat to the room. Yes, there is a plus for the heat in the house, but in this case, the formation of condensation inside the chimney will be much stronger. For this, the sandwich chimney is made, to maintain the temperature of the exhaust gases throughout the entire chimney and to minimize condensation.

✅ Further, my chimney passes into a horizontal section. It is this place that many consider the most evil for the chimney: increased formation of carbon deposits, poor traction, difficulty in cleaning. What am I going to do with all this ???

What is the horizontal section of the chimney made of: a tee (and not a swivel element), then an adapter from 120 chimney diameter to 130, then the adapter to the sandwich, and the meter element itself chimney sandwich.

• I do not argue that there is more soot in such places. Therefore, I put the tee at an angle so that it was possible to easily get inside, and clean everything, if necessary.
• The transition from 120 to 130 diameter was made just to increase the draft, and to compensate for the decrease in the diameter of the chimney, with the build-up of carbon deposits.
• And somewhere I heard about such a rule for installing a chimney: for each horizontal section (no more than 1 meter), you need to put at least 3 meters of a vertical chimney ...

Which was done next.

After the horizontal part of the chimney, through a tee, 4 meters of a sandwich chimney was installed.

The total height of the chimney, from the stove to the deflector, was 5 meters (as required according to the instructions for the oven). Therefore, the draft is excellent, and there is no smoke in the house, in all weather conditions.

❗❗❗ At the same time, I did not fall into one rule for installing chimneys.

The height is slightly lower than the ridge. But so far I have not felt any negative consequences.
