8 main mistakes when painting walls: consequences that are difficult to fix

Sometimes you want to transform the house, make repairs in the room, rearrange the furniture. Even without spending a lot of money, you can transform the interior beyond recognition. One of these methods is the usual painting of the walls.

Abroad, most people no longer glue wallpaper. They just paint the walls in calm colors. Then they can always be updated, repainted.

Due to inexperience, from ignorance, many make mistakes when painting walls. Let's talk about the main ones.

1. The walls should be prepared before final finishing. Therefore, it is important to clean them, putty all the pits, cracks. Then sand the surface with fine sandpaper. Defects are especially noticeable if the walls are painted with glossy / semi-gloss paint.

2. To prime or no wall before painting?

Some people think to save money and not buy soil. Such an error will lead to overspending of paint or poor quality staining.

3. Too much matte the surface can make the walls look boring. You can do this. apply decorative plaster (eg Grotto style) and then paint.

Paint the protruding part with pearlescent pigment / paint. Thus, the wall will "play", will look rich and original.

4. Color selection - this is a difficult stage. Here you need to be careful not to choose your favorite color, for example, orange. If in doubt and think for a long time about which shade to choose, give preference to white, gray, beige. For my walls, I chose a gray paint with a touch of blue.

With such walls it will be possible to combine different shades of furniture, textiles, interior items.

5. Instruments for painting walls. Usually I use 2 rollers, brushes for hard-to-reach places.

You need to buy everything in advance so as not to run around the shops later. For the first layer of paint, a roller with a nap of 1-1.5 cm is perfect. If applying a second coat, use a lighter nap roller.

6. Apply paint in one direction. Optimal: horizontally or vertically on all walls in the same way. It is allowed to paint the first layer horizontally, and the other vertically.

7. Paint in one layer. Many people say that this way the paint will lay unevenly. But now such paints are sold that are quite dense, thick and they can be applied in one layer. For example, I chose Relax acrylic paint for my walls.

8. Little paint - large error. It is necessary to clearly calculate how many layers you will apply, what square, how many liters of paint will go to the walls. For example, they bought paint, diluted it with color scheme to the desired shade. We painted the walls, but not enough.

How to choose a shade now? It's hard to do. The way out is this: buy paint with tinting. For example, I recently bought acrylic white paint and ordered a free tinting from Leroy Merlin.
