Unknown space source sent 1652 signals to Earth in just 47 days

An international scientific team led by Professor Li Di and Dr. Wang Pei (National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC)), announced that they were able to capture the largest set of FRB bursts to date - fast radio bursts, the source and nature of which scientists still unknown.

Unknown radio bursts and their nature

The first so-called FRB (Fast Radio Burst) were recorded back in 2007 and are extremely powerful bursts of energy that last only a fraction of a second.

And up to a certain point, it was generally accepted that such manifestations can be extremely isolated. Here are just the latest observations of scientists say something completely different. And it turns out that FRB radiation may well be cyclical.

It is this cyclical manifestation that scientists managed to record thanks to the work of the FAST radio telescope, which, in 47 days, starting from August 29, 2019, recorded 1,652 transient radio bursts.

This is an absolute record, and, according to scientists, this set alone includes significantly more FRB bursts than all previously recorded events combined.

Engineers assigned the event the number FRB 121102 and called it the first ever space "relay".

Astronomers have carefully studied the trajectory of the signal propagation and found that its likely source is a so-called dwarf galaxy. Such an array of signals received from one place suggests that there is some kind of permanent "radio signal source" in this galaxy.

But at the same time, the behavior of the signal is extremely difficult to predict, in connection with which it was suggested that such a series of signals is associated with a certain “seasonal” factor.

In the process of recording radio signals, the scientists noted that the FRB 121102 event has a variable frequency, and 122 bursts were recorded during the so-called "rush hour".

Scientists still cannot explain the origin of FRB signals. Many versions have been put forward, there were even those according to which FRB radiation is nothing more than a manifestation of the vital activity of extraterrestrial civilizations.

But as the main version, scientists still adhere to the more real and assume that they emit FRB bursts of neutron stars, black holes or cosmic strings that have survived since the Bolshoi explosion.
