Roscosmos told about the start of work within the framework of the Baiterek project for future launches of Soyuz-5
Representatives of the Basis campaign, together with representatives of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Objects, discussed issues related to the beginning of both design and construction work on the formation of a ground-based space infrastructure intended for the preparation of the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle at Baikonur.
Baiterek project and its implementation
The Baiterek project is a common initiative of the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan aimed at subsequent launches of promising medium and light-heavy carrier rockets "Soyuz-6" and "Soyuz-5" from the cosmodrome Baikonur.
At the moment, work is already underway with design and estimate documentation, and this work is being done firm LLP "Bazis Engineering" (Kazakhstan design institute, belonging to the group of campaigns "Basis").
And in the very near future, specialists will arrive at the cosmodrome to carry out the first planned work.
Thus, according to the Baiterek project, a complete modernization of the existing infrastructure, previously implemented within the framework of such a project as Zenit-M, will be carried out at the cosmodrome.
And the new complex will meet all modern requirements for environmental friendliness, will have an increased carrying capacity, and will also be economically competitive with other world projects of a similar scale.
I would like to note that the first flight tests of the Soyuz-5 should take place in the second half of 2023 (if everything goes according to plan). And after all tests are completed, it is expected to carry out at least two launches of such launch vehicles per year.
Well, we will monitor the implementation of the project and hope that there will be no delays, since the competition in the space sector is growing.
