China wants to build five huge radio telescopes at once and overtake everyone in the world at once by 50 years in the development of radio astronomy
Chinese experts have already taught everyone that they are capable of creating the most complex structures in a fairly short time, and now scientists thought about building five huge radio telescopes at once, similar to the already built 500-meter radio telescope FAST.
If the project is approved and implemented, Chinese scientists will be at least half a century ahead of the rest of the world in the field of radio astronomy.
Why China needs new radio telescopes
So, according to official Chinese sources, to develop and build the FAST radio telescope in the area of karst mountains the province of Guizhou, which was commissioned more than five years ago, it took about $ 100 million investment.
But the construction of five new radio telescopes using already tested technology and practically ready-made design documentation will be cheaper. The question only arises: Why does China need new radio telescopes?
The thing is that the international and Chinese astronomical community reports that after it was destroyed Arecibo radio telescope (Puerto Rico), China's FAST radio telescope turned out to be the world's only powerful laboratory complex.
And in fact, the data received on the Chinese radio telescope is simply nowhere to check (confirm or refute). This means that in order for radio astronomy to develop, new powerful radio telescopes are needed.
At the moment, FAST has made it possible to make a huge number of interesting scientific discoveries, and the construction of new telescopes will allow not only to remove probable errors, but also greatly increase the resolution in the case of their simultaneous use.
So, according to the calculations of engineers, the total area of six radio telescopes at once will be able to make an impressive 1.2 square kilometers.
And this, for a minute, is more than the area of the largest radio telescope under construction, the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), but 20 countries (including China) are participating in this project at once. And then the Celestial Empire decided on its own to create a unique complex of five radio telescopes.
So far, there is no official confirmation that the project to create five radio telescopes at once has been approved, but for some reason it seems that if approved, this project will be implemented and rather quickly.
Do you think China will be able to implement this project? Write in the comments.
