Made paving slabs out of ceiling tiles. I share step-by-step instructions and show the result
I don't know if the lockdown gives the results that are expected of it. But I know for sure that there are definitely benefits for people. Someone has finally allowed themselves a long-awaited vacation, which they have been postponing all the time. And someone (for example, I) took the time to craft and create interesting content for the blog.
We spent this week at the dacha. The weather was excellent. I managed not only to spend time with my family, but also to beautify the yard and various homemade products.
Today I want to show you a very cool idea that I found on the Internet and brought it to life - how to make paving slabs from foam tiles for the ceiling. Facade tiles can be made according to the same principle. I warn you right away that the process is not fast, but rather laborious. But the result is very impressive and gives a lot of emotions.
What is required?
- Patterned foam ceiling tiles.
- Styrofoam 300 mm - for facade tiles, 500 mm - for paving slabs.
- Acrylic nails.
- Sharp clerical knife.
- Concrete mortar.
- Outdoor paint.
How to make paving slabs from the ceiling - step by step instructions
You need to make 2 square slabs from expanded polystyrene, which will be wider in width than the ceiling tile - protrude 5 centimeters on each side.
We lay in a "pyramid" two foam plates and ceiling tiles on top. On one slab, draw a marker around the ceiling tile and cut out the frame along the drawn lines. We sand the sections with sandpaper.
Glue the frame to the second foam board using acrylic nails. Apply nails not only to the frame, but also to the cuts / joints to fill in the gaps. I additionally missed it with my finger so that there were no gaps left, and so that the acrylic dries faster. The base was made from foam plates. In order for it to be properly fastened, it is necessary to put it under the load. I laid the boards and bricks on the mold, and left to dry completely.
Next, we put the foam tile in the form with the pattern up, and on it - the plastic wrap. This will be the shape for the future paving (or facade) tiles.
We prepare a solution - cement M 500 and sand in proportions 1 to 2. We put the solution in the mold. Thoroughly compact and place a metal plaster mesh in the center. We ram everything, equalize and leave for 2 days.
After 2 days, turn the mold over, remove the foam and film, and carefully take out the curly concrete tiles. The edges should be cleaned and sanded.
After 5 days you can paint. I used an outdoor acrylic paint mixed with a primer. It is necessary to cover the tiles with paint from all sides.
Well, then - your imagination. I additionally walked around the edges and patterns with mother-of-pearl. And inside I tinted the tiles with copper paint. As an experiment, it worked out well. I painted the second tile differently. Photo at the beginning of the article.
