Now some specialists will shout in unison: "Well, I told you that the oven can only be made of brick. And all these iron specimens with marketing names are self-indulgence. " NNo need to hurry, only your practice can give answers to all questions.

Friends, everyone is a huge hello. It has been a couple of months since I first fired the stove in my house.

Experience of using a stove of long burning (smoldering), and the answer to the main question: what is the real mode of its operation?

And during this period, the weather was different, from +10 in October, to -20 in December (just the other day). At the same time, it rains and snow and wind. In general, all weather conditions have been tested, respectively, all possible problems, if they could, they would have already shown themselves ...

Generally speaking, the oven is working ...

In all the above conditions, the wood burns, the smoke comes out ...

👆 But if you go into the nuances, then there will already be something to talk about, and something to doubt ...

My oven (this is the "fire battery-9" model), is positioned as a long burning (smoldering) furnace. Even the instructions describe the operating conditions:

Open fire is allowed only when lighting the stove. The firewood should smolder during the main operating time. In this case, the oven will serve as it should and for a long time.

But what about practice?

First, in order to create this mode of decay, one must act consistently:

✔ First, melt the stove so that everything is thoroughly ignited and warmed up, and normal coals are formed.

✔ Then add another batch of firewood, and you can switch to the "smoldering mode". But very fine thrust settings are needed here.

Although the stove also has a gate at the outlet, and there is an adjustment of the air supply at the inlet, all this is not so easy to do. Indeed, in fact, in order for the wood to smolder, we must practically block the movement of air in the combustion chamber. And here I personally had the following problems:

  • Too strong draft, when even if all the dampers are closed, the air "finds a hole" and the fire still burns.
  • Or, on the contrary, too strong an overlap of the thrust can lead to its overturning. And that moment between decay and reverse thrust is very small.
Of course, the chimney plays an important role here, and the correctness of its installation. Not everything is perfect with me (the fact that there is a horizontal section already affects the stability of traction).

But even if we create ideal conditions, what do we get?

Perhaps stupid and corny, but think about it: Why bake in the house at all?

To keep it warm... Everything is logical.

But what kind of room heating will we get if the oven operates in this smoldering mode?

When all the stars converged, and I was able to heat for some period in the mode of long burning, the stove cooled down so much that I could safely touch it with my hand. What kind of heating can be obtained in this case, I do not understand (even to keep warm, this is far from enough).

What will happen in real practice?

  • The maximum that can be achieved is not smoldering, but slow burning of wood. Whatever one may say, there will be no warmth without fire.
  • In this case, you need to control the process. In the course of firewood combustion, conditions change (temperature, draft, etc.), respectively, it is necessary to react to this in order to maintain the desired mode of the furnace.
I don’t know how some people leave the oven for the night and go to bed right there (there are many such examples on the Internet)? I do not advise anyone to do this.
  • How all this will affect the life of the stove is not clear. although I am not a stoker, but moderately, the metal is still comparatively thin, and how long it will last is anyone's guess.

Here is a detailed video review on this topic. Be sure to take a look.

But in any case, I am pleased with the benefits that she brings to me. And in general, it is possible that two months is not yet a period to gain sufficient experience in operation. We drown and build on ...
