Errors when insulating the facade with penoplex (plus a problem with ants and mice)
Penoplex relatively recently began to be used in construction. It has a number of advantages over other materials for insulating the facade of a house. High thermal protection, durability, safety, strength - not all the advantages of penoplex.
This material is successfully used to insulate foundations, plinths, blind areas etc.
There are also downsides to this material. Penoplex is sensitive to light. To avoid damage, it is hidden under a layer of finish, which does not allow the penoplex to heat up and melt. Compared to mineral wool, it is resistant to sunlight and heat.
In penoplex, with slight heating, the structure is destroyed. Moreover, when heated, it releases styrene, which is unhealthy. Penoplex releases harmful gas when burning.
Fastening the foam to the facade
To improve adhesion, you can make small cuts, roughness in each sheet of foam. Then glue the sheets (apply the glue without voids to the sheets), and foam the gaps between the material. Be sure to fix the penoplex with a disc dowel for the facade. Fasten at corners and in the center.
Another disadvantage of foam is low adhesion. If you use the wrong (cheap) mesh for penoplex and then plaster, you can ruin the facade.
Therefore, use a special glue, facade mesh on a glass cloth base, impregnated with polymers. Be sure to overlap the mesh. It is pressed into the thickness (up to 7 mm) of the plaster layer.
Penoplex is not recommended to be used for insulating frame and wooden houses. It's all about zero vapor permeability. Air circulation through the tree is disrupted. As a result, moisture will accumulate in the tree, which will develop harmful microflora, and the fibers of the tree will collapse over time.
Some builders claim that penoplex is the favorite material for mice. They love to drag him into their holes. This can be avoided. Add specials interlayer, which will be impregnated with abrasive particles. Rodents will refuse to chew on such material.
Ants are also not averse to settling in a heater. they like porosity and warmth in freezing temperatures.
