How to check the dryness of firewood with liquid soap: the easiest and fastest way!
The moisture content of wood/firewood can be checked in many ways. For example: weigh; lower the fragment of the board into a barrel of water and see how it floats; by sound - knock and listen to how it "rings". Finally, use a moisture meter. By the way, the normal moisture content of dry firewood is 15–18%. But the dryness of firewood, or wood, before you start working with it, can be determined much easier! How to do it - read on.
Liquid soap and healthy lungs - that's all you need for express analysis!
This method, like all ingenious, is extremely simple. It needs a little liquid soap or detergent, and that's it ...
What should be done?
From a batch of firewood or wood, take one log or a piece of board 30 centimeters long, smear one side of the log or the end of the board with liquid soap, and blow hard on the other side! Yes, yes, you were not mistaken, just blow. You can, of course, attach the hose of a compressor or a car pump - the effect will be stronger.
So, if the control log or piece of board is dry, then the liquid soap at the other end of the piece of wood will foam. That is, the air from your lungs will pass through the capillaries/vessels of the wood and foam the soap at the other end. With wet wood, this trick will not work!
It is not known for certain who and when invented this method, but obviously not yesterday and certainly not stupid people.
Who needs it and when?
Of course, professional carpenters, carpenters and builders will not blow through six-meter boards with their lungs. They will also detect wet wood by touch.
But if you were promised to bring dry firewood or wood, but you don’t know other methods, feel free to check it out! After all, raw firewood smokes a lot and burns poorly, and after drying, a wet board can be turned out by a helicopter! And so there is a chance to quickly determine whether it is possible to work with wood, and burn firewood.
