"Life hack" from the newspaper "Science and Life" helped to eliminate the leak from the toilet bowl

In Soviet times, people knew how to make something necessary and useful “on their knees” from grease and sticks. In the journal "Science and Life" I read an interesting advice from one of the subscribers. He fixed a leak in the bathroom faucet at the faucet/shower changeover. I decided to try this method on another common problem - leaking from under the toilet cistern valve.

I think many have faced a similar problem: water oozes from the tank in a thin stream into the toilet bowl - you need to change the cuff on the valve, but you can’t find it on sale during the day with fire. You have to buy a complete set of fittings. And sometimes it is not on sale for the desired toilet model. I tried to solve the problem using the method of Soviet craftsmen.

When water constantly oozes, a water stone inevitably appears.

Water stone appeared not only on the surface of the toilet bowl. Quite a lot of it was on all the details inside the tank. Even the upper part of the reinforcement could not be snapped off - I had to get everything assembled.

The next photo is for those who like to drink tap water and don't want to put on filters so as not to "accustom the stomach to tenderness." Look at how much debris from ordinary tap water has settled in the tank. Especially on the right side.

The leak appears due to the fact that the sealing gum does not fit snugly against the “saddle”. In this case, there are two problems. First, rubber has become less elastic over time. Secondly, deposits of water stone appeared on the surface. The valve does not fit snugly - water constantly leaks.

Due to the "aging" of the rubber and the appearance of plaque, the valve does not fit snugly.

A subscriber to the Soviet journal Nauka i Zhizn suggested rubbing loose surfaces with wax, soap, or grease.

No sooner said than done - found a children's birthday candle. Tried to rub her rubber valve.

My attempts to rub the sealing gum with a candle were unsuccessful. Paraffin rolls on the rubber. After that I found a wax candle - the result is the same. The wax rolls off and that's it.

In the end, I treated the surface with a thick universal grease. It is important that the composition is suitable for application to rubber. If you lubricate non-oil-resistant rubber with an aggressive agent, the seal can quickly become unusable.

Apply multipurpose grease to the seal.

Focus succeeded. No more leaks from the toilet bowl. If the material was useful, put "thumbs up" 👍 and subscribe to the channel. Share your experience with rodents in the comments.
