I no longer suffer from a lack of outlets. I show how easy it is to install a double outlet instead of a single one. 10 minutes and done
How to change the socket?
Usually the socket is changed when it is due to the use of energy-intensive household appliances (homemade electric stoves, water heaters and the like) from constant heating burns out and goes out of building. This also happens when electrical devices are operated without taking into account the load for which they are designed. And of course, they must be replaced if there is a weak outlet, and an energy-intensive device will be included in it. Timely replacement will avoid trouble in the future.
Anyone who knows how to hold a screwdriver in their hands can change it. Even girls can do it. You just need to know a few simple rules.
Do I need to change the outlet?
You turn on the appliance, but it does not turn on. We checked the same device on another outlet - it works. The conclusion suggests itself that the outlet is to blame. Does this mean it needs to be replaced? First, we check it with an indicator screwdriver, inserting it alternately into one and the other connectors. If the indicator light does not light up in both holes, then the phase has gone somewhere. If the light is on in both holes, then the contact breaks on the neutral wire. To check the connection of the wires to the outlet, open it.
To do this, unscrew the screw on the cover.
Bring the indicator screwdriver first to one end of the wire, and then to the other. I repeat, to the wire, not to the contact. If the situation with the wires is the same, that is, the light either lights up at both ends, or does not light up at all, then the socket has nothing to do with it, and the problem lies in the wiring.
Rule one for blondes. Do not touch bare wires with your hands. If you need to pull it out, or fix it in order to feel it with an indicator, use pliers with handles with plastic lining. Manicure tools are not suitable here.
First, remove the old outlet and check its condition.
the topic of our conversation is not the wires, but the malfunction of the outlet. So, at one end of the wire, the indicator light flashes, but not at the other.
To pull the socket out of its socket, you need to loosen the tabs. There is another rule at work here.
Rule two. For safety reasons, electrical work must not be carried out with, under voltage, that is, with the mains turned on.
Before starting work, de-energize the work area. Now many users install several circuit breakers in the apartment that protect the electrical network from overloads, and also work in the event of a short circuit. If necessary, the machine is switched off manually. If there is no wiring with separate machines in the apartment, you will have to de-energize the entire apartment for the duration of the work.
So the electricity is off. Make sure with an indicator screwdriver that there is no voltage in the network. Now you can get to work. Loosen the locking tabs by unscrewing the screws halfway.
Some sockets are produced without clamps, and are attached to the box mounted in the socket with self-tapping screws.
Unscrew them and take them out. If it is planned to repair the outlet, you should inspect its contacts, how firmly the wires are connected, and whether there are melted burnt areas in the outlet.
Rule three. To prevent the socket from heating up during operation, the contact screws must press the wires with maximum strength. The slightest indulgence will lead to heating, sparking and ignition. The socket must not be operated if the threads in the contact screws are torn off, or the plug in the socket is loose.
Socket to be replaced
So, you've made the decision to send the outlet out of harm's way and install a new one. To do this, loosen the contact screws and free the old one from the wires.
In the socket where the old outlet was, you can install the same single or double one, which will be much more reliable and better. Plus, the user will receive another outlet.
It can be installed horizontally or vertically.
We find the holes for the contacts, and loosen the screws in them. We align the ends of the wires and guide them into the holes so that they are under the screw. tighten the screws with a screwdriver. We check whether the wires are firmly fixed in the contacts and carefully insert the socket into the socket. At the same time, we make sure that the wire does not fall under the foot, and does not become pinched. Tighten the screws on the legs
It remains to screw the cover, which performs a decorative and protective function.
Now you can turn on the machine and check its performance.
Important. Most often, sockets fail because the wire in contact is not securely fixed. And after several switching on and off of electrical appliances, it pops out from under the bolt. Or breaks off.
