Now the floors in the bath do not rot for a long time. Grandfather suggested one trick from the USSR
Oh bath! Pleasure for men and women - hot steam, fragrant broom and kvass in a large mug. How do you want the inside of the bath to be always clean and free of mold. After washing, water remains on the floor, destroying the boards, wiping the wooden floor dry will never occur to anyone. I propose to talk about how to protect the wood of the floors from rot.
Why do boards rot?
Wood and water are incompatible materials, but in a hot steam room, wood trim is the most suitable option.
When water gets on the wood, fungi begin to develop on the surface. The longer the moisture stays, the more nutrient medium for their growth. Of course, during the next frying, some of them die, but the main colonies multiply between the joints in the places of contact.
I must say right away that it will not be possible to completely avoid the destructive process, but it is possible to significantly slow down the decay.
Grandpa's way
Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of antiseptics. They are certainly effective. But I am an adherent of an eco-friendly lifestyle and try not to use chemicals if there is a way to do without them.
The necessary information was given by an old neighbor in the country. At a time when there were no antiseptic agents for mold, they began to fight it already at the construction stage. The floorboards were prepared and laid in a special way. Here are some tips everyone should know:
- The upper surface of the board was planed with bevels to the edges so that the water would drain;
- The end cut was pentagonal;
- When laying between the boards, it is necessary to leave a gap of 5-7 mm for water to drain;
- In the places where the boards adjoin the walls, it is impossible to nail skirting boards, fungal colonies will live under them
Sooner or later, some parts of the floor will have to be changed. Don't let that discourage those who like to take a steam bath.
Other folk ways
There are other methods of dealing with rotting boards. Methods using chemistry are deliberately omitted here.
Mechanical cleaning
Using sandpaper or a sander, you need to clean off the top layer with mold areas. Achieve the original light color of the boards.
Borax processing
The sodium salt of boric acid or borax is perhaps not quite a folk remedy, but it cannot cause severe harm to the environment, since it is a natural mineral. Dilute 200 g of borax in 3 liters of water, apply the solution to the damaged areas of the floor, let it soak in. This procedure can be performed, for example, monthly for preventive purposes.
Some Helpful Tips
These recommendations will also help save the floor in the bath from rapid destruction:
· At the construction stage, provide forced ventilation of the room;
· Do not store water supplies inside when the bath is not heated;
Remove rubber or polyurethane mats from the floor while the floor is drying;
Wet towels, damp clothes, washed clothes dry in another place
The sooner measures are taken to prevent putrefactive damage to wood, the easier it is to deal with them. Thanks to properly laid boards and regular processing, the floor in the bath will last at least 10 years.
