I no longer suffer with torn hinges on the doors. Simple tricks for fast and secure fastening
Everyone faces a similar problem. The tree at the point of contact with the self-tapping screw loosens, the hole increases and everything ends up with the hinge breaking out, and the door falling or sagging on the remaining hinge. Consider several ways to fix loose fittings.
Method 1
If the self-tapping screw is loose in the loop, you can take fasteners of a slightly larger diameter.
He sits tighter in the nest.
If the loop sits on the jamb, then here, to fix it, you can take screws of greater length.
It is important to understand that if the self-tapping screw scrolls in the socket, then the socket is too big for it, and it should be sealed.
How to do this, you will learn from the second and third methods.
Method 2.
Thus, if screwing in a thicker screw did not help, let's try to reduce the width of the socket. To this end, it is necessary to cut a chopik, grease it with glue and hammer it into the enlarged hole. Cut off excess. Wait for some time for the glue to set, and then screw a self-tapping screw into this chopik. For this work, wood glue, PVA is suitable. You can also use Moment. Someone suggests using epoxy, but I wouldn't. Epoxy takes a long time to dry. In addition, after complete drying, the resin hardens, and it will be problematic to screw a screw into this hole.
Method 3
I would call this method exotic. Personally, I have not used it. But if you're interested, you can try. Instead of a wooden chopstick, try inserting a wire bent several times into the hole.
If the hole is not too loose, you can take a small piece of copper wire from an unused transformer and bend it a few times. Then twist a little, as is done in a twist.
Insert this twist into the hole for the self-tapping screw and do not completely screw the fasteners into the hole. Break off or bite off the excess wire with wire cutters and tighten the screw to the end.
If the hole is so loose that the fasteners walk in it, it is suggested to take a thicker wire from the electrical wiring and insert it together with the insulation.
When screwing in a self-tapping screw, it is inserted into the center of the wire. Excess wire must also be removed. For example, break off. Cut off the peeking insulation with a knife.
Steel wool can be an alternative to wire. It is necessary to take a small piece of such cotton wool, roll it into a tube equal to the diameter of the hole and drive it into this hole. Then fasten the screw.
By the way, the option with steel wool has more rights to exist than the option with wire, since the steel wool fibers from one the sides cling to the wood, on the other they penetrate the thread slots and, thus, this material will hold the self-tapping screw in the socket.
Important: when working with steel wool, you must wear gloves and be careful not to prick your hands.
Method 4
If the loops are standard universal, you can move the loosened loop up or down by 1-3 cm, that is, screw it in a new place. At the same time, it is advisable to hammer chopsticks into old holes and putty with a mixture of wood flour and glue. By the way, if you add gouache to the putty to match the door, the puttied places will become invisible.
Nothing prevents the master from improvising during the repair of doors. For example, seal the hole with a chopstick and take a long or thick self-tapping screw. All the methods that I have described here are quite working and tested. They will help you keep the house in order and the peace in the family. After all, it doesn’t look very nice when the interior door or the door from the closet is nearby, and the contents of the closet are covered with dust. Hold on, men. Your women will appreciate your efforts.
