Now like new! I'll show you how easy it is to reupholster chairs with your own hands

Old upholstered furniture eventually becomes unusable, but its elements wear out unevenly. Upholstery and polymer filler fail much faster than a natural wood frame. Do not rush to throw away such a chair, because the soft elements can be replaced, and the frame can be covered with a new varnish, and the chair will become like new.

Now like new! I'll show you how easy it is to reupholster chairs with your own hands

Stage 1: dismantling of soft parts

Remove worn parts of the chair, often they are bolted. Remove the old upholstery and foam insert, then clean and examine the seat frame. With a high degree of wear of rubber or leather belts, they will also have to be replaced, retaining the weave. If the elastic straps are functional after cleaning, they do not need to be replaced.

Cut out a new piece of seat from the furniture foam. To do this, attach the frame to the foam, circle and add 3 cm on each side, and on the front side, where the legs will rest - 1 cm longer than the height of the frame. From the upholstery fabric, cut a part of such a size that its edges can be folded to the height of the frame and fastened to its underside. To the outlined outline of the frame on the fabric, you will need to add the height of the frame on each side and another 3-4 cm, so that the fabric is enough to stretch and fasten along the wrong side of the frame.

Stage 2: seat wrapping

The easiest way to fix the fabric is with a construction stapler, and if the wood of the frame is soft, then the clerical stapler will also cope with the task. For greater strength and reliability of fastening the fabric, it is better to use wide staples with a size of 8-10 mm.

Place the frame on the fabric, trying to keep it symmetrical. Leave the longer edge of the foam rubber along the front edge of the seat, and make the length of the protruding edge of the upholstery fabric the same around the perimeter.

Staple the fabric on the side corresponding to the front edge first. Try to keep the edge of the same width when pulling the fabric, this will avoid skew.

For greater strength, you can knock out the staples with a hammer.

The opposite edge is fixed second. The fabric is fixed with tension to avoid sagging afterwards. When tensioning, it is important to ensure that the width of the fastened edge is uniform, then the surface of the seat will be more even.

Before finally fixing the side of the upholstery, turn the seat over and stretch the fabric slightly to the sides to ensure it is evenly stretched and does not wrinkle.

Fasten the side surfaces of the upholstery on the wrong side, leaving free corners.

Stage 3: fixing the corners

Lastly, the corners are carefully laid and fixed. They do not need to be cut to avoid slipping of the fabric in places of high tension. The long corner is laid down and closed with side folds. The fabric is stapled and tapped with a hammer.

When all the corners are fixed, cut off the threads protruding from the fabric.

Step 4: seat installation

Install the seat into the chair frame in the correct orientation. The soft edge should be located on the front edge of the chair.

After installing the seat, secure it with the available boots. For greater aesthetics, the lower surface of the seat can be covered with a thin fabric, non-woven synthetic material or plywood.

After repair and upholstery pulling, the chair will look great and will last for many more years.
