How to hide pipes in the bathroom: it is not necessary to wall them up

Having seen enough beautiful design pictures, people want to implement such repairs in their apartment. But in the bathroom there are usually many pipes that need to be closed: plumbing, sewage, towel warmer and sometimes ventilation. If you do not hide them, you can forget about a beautiful design.

Often, designers simply brick communications into the walls. It turns out beautiful, but impractical. At the first leak, you will have to dismantle all the beauty. But there are alternative ways to finish. Consider the features of common solutions, and at the end I will show not only beautiful, but also practical options.

We hide the pipes in the bathroom under the tiles

It seems that it is a simple matter to pierce the walls, hide communications in them and cover them with tile glue on top. But often masters make gross mistakes during repairs. That's what IT IS FORBIDDEN do:

• Cut out channels in ventilation blocks. You block the ventilation duct and disrupt the air exchange in the apartments located below the riser.

• Make horizontal grooves in load-bearing walls. With a high probability, you will cut a large number of rods of vertical working reinforcement and greatly reduce the thickness of the wall.
• Break out the floor slab. When plumbing or heating is laid on the floor, it is hidden in a screed and nothing else.

Pay attention to the following nuances:

• If you decide to close the pipes under the tiles in the walls, use new materials. It will be a shame if rusted metal or an old fitting leaks a month after the end of the repair.
• Lay the cold and hot lines in separate strobes, and not in one.
• Use pipe insulation. The insulation will save you from condensation, compensate for deformations and protect against cracks in the tiles.

2. We close the pipes in the lining of drywall

The classic solution is to make a frame from profiles, sew it up with plasterboard sheets and lay tiles on top. Pay attention to the following nuances:

• There is high humidity in the toilet and bathroom, so it is better to use moisture-resistant drywall.
• If you close the sewer into a horizontal box, the sewing height is not equal to the diameter of the pipes. Consider slope. Over a long distance, the height increases significantly.
• Don't forget about the inspection hatches. I would like to tell you a little more about them.

The revision hatch, through which we gain access to communications, is needed for constant access, for example, to water meters. In addition, it will not be superfluous to make emergency hatches:

• Under the bath in the siphon area. When it clogs, and it will clog sooner or later, you can clear the blockage.
• At pipe bends. For example, the pipeline goes first along one wall, then turns and goes along another wall.

You can implement an inspection or emergency hatch in different ways:

• You can buy a white plastic hatch at your local hardware store. The solution is very budgetary, but the aesthetics are lame.

• There are "holes for tiles". After installation, they are practically invisible, but the prices here are not the lowest.

• You can make a hatch from the same ceramic tiles that you lay in the bathroom. We make a hole in the box a little smaller than the size of the tile. We wrap the tile in cling film. We lay it on tile adhesive so that the emergency hole is completely closed. After the glue dries, remove the film. We fill the seam around the perimeter with silicone. In an emergency, we cut through the silicone, take out the tile with a suction cup and get access to the revision.

3. We close the pipes in the bathroom, but do not “brick up” them

The first method will not be appreciated by everyone, since it loses a lot in aesthetics. We close the niche at the passage of the riser with tiles only along the contour. We hide the highways behind the blinds. Their colors can now be chosen for any design.

A similar method is suitable for the old housing stock. Just imagine, you have renovated your house. Replaced communications. A month later, a leak appeared at a neighbor in the riser. Plumbing needs to be changed. Be sure that if your common riser was tightly tiled, in an emergency it will be opened.

A more accurate way is to choose a tall cabinet in size or make it to order. We cut holes in the walls and shelves for the passage of pipes. We get quick access through standard doors.
