Required Tools

You will need the simplest tools:

Work process

We bring the mount under the plinth and knock it out with a hammer. With force we press and remove pieces of wood. You can work with the tool both from the side and from the front. At first it may seem that all this is too complicated, but over time you will get used to the process.

Removing an old Soviet-style wooden plinth is not as easy as it might seem from the outside. Previously, they were done to the conscience, and you will have to put a lot of effort, spend some time to clean everything neatly.

Some hints

If the plinth is installed very tightly and the mount does not fit into the gap, and also if there is simply no tool, you can use a chisel, an old strong spatula, or even a good thick screwdriver. But this is suitable if the tree is already completely decrepit or there is simply no other option. The Soviet wooden plinth is planted very firmly, and even with a mount it is not always possible to remove it the first time. Just look at the length of the nails on which it is attached.

If you remove the plinth in an old apartment, then it will definitely be removed along with part of the wall. Therefore, after dismantling, it is necessary to align the resulting step. It is beaten with a hammer around the entire perimeter of the room to make the line clearer and remove pieces that are not holding tight.

And only then the lower part can be puttied. After the step is removed, and it becomes the same plane with the wall, it will be possible to make new repairs and lay new skirting boards.
