Of course, in the future, such tomatoes will not be used for food.
Tomatoes lose their attractive appearance.
It should be noted that large-fruited varieties of early ripening are recognized as the most vulnerable to cracking. And the later ones show resistance to this. This is especially true for those varieties that have a rather thick skin.

The most likely causes of cracking tomatoes are as follows:


Slowdown in development, which occurs due to a systematic lack of moisture. When watering is completely absent for several days, and then abruptly resumes, tomatoes experience something like shock therapy.

This provokes the appearance of cracks on their surface. To prevent this from happening, experienced gardeners recommend using the drip irrigation technique.


Incorrect dressings that are applied to the ground. In this case, the cracks are of the so-called concentric nature. So, an excess of nitrogen and potassium can provoke deformations. And also a lack of calcium, boron can act as a provocateur.


Sometimes the so-called netting appears on tomatoes. The damage is not particularly deep, but it captures a fairly large area on the surface of the tomato. Then they dry up, leaving behind brown marks.


The cause of such deformations may be stress caused by a particularly abundant and active removal of stepchildren.
In addition, reticulation is very often one of the symptoms of a disease such as late blight.

Therefore, the appearance of cracks should also be immediately paid attention to and the cause found out.


If it was possible to find out that it is phytophthora that attacks the vegetable crop, it is necessary to immediately get rid of this disease, since it spreads very quickly, and can also significantly spoil the quantitative and qualitative indicators productivity.

For the fight, in most cases, a variety of fungicidal preparations are used.
