How to make a universal charging from a computer power supply unit

Making a deep reconstruction of his personal computer, I wondered what to do with the still working old parts such as power supply (well, do not throw it well). A little thought, I decided to collect it from a universal charging station and that's what I did.

In this article I will discuss in detail how this can be done with minimal alterations.

Any power supply outputs a voltage following series: 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V and in the majority of cases we are with you will need only two voltages - a 5 Volt and 12 Volt.

Training

If you also have a long-unused power supply, before proceeding to its modernization, check its performance. To do this, take the connector that connects to the motherboard, place it so that the slots We are looking at you, and the top row of the jumper between 3 and 4 socket (usually black and green wire) like this:

This will run the power supply without connecting to a computer. If the unit is functioning, do not hesitate to continue its modernization.

If your case is not the product label, which shows the color of the wires and the corresponding voltage, remember the following: black wire - ground (GND), the yellow wire +12, +5 red lead, orange +3.3 V. This would be sufficient.

The next step should be clear to you, our power supply from the accumulated dust. To do this, remove the cover and blows it, for example, a compressor or any other way you can.

Important. To alter the power supply we will be at a minimum, so that nothing desoldering of viscera will not. That is to say retain the potential of possible follow-up upgrades.

What do I need to buy

So, our with you the power supply is fully tested and ready for further alteration. As I already wrote above remodel itself we do not block, so to upgrade us you will need:

1. Two pairs of crocodiles with insulation.

2. Two double USB connector type "mom."

3. A small box.

4. Stationery knife, marker, gun with hot glue, colored heat shrink tubing, pliers, soldering iron and a bit of free time.

Assembling charger

So, first of all start with the simplest, namely by connection with you our crocodiles to the conductors.

To do this, carefully cut the connector and wire once the pre-dress taken from crocodiles casings.

After that, we clean the isolation and using a soldering iron solder wire to the crocodiles.

Wire with 12 Volt I further highlighted by a shrinking yellow.

And to ensure that the wires are not confused, I sealed them using colored duct tape.
