How to make nichrome cutter with your hands?

To make nichrome cutter, you will need two main elements: the power supply to 12V and a current of 5 - 10 A, as well as Nichrome wire diameter of 0.3 - 0.4 mm. As a source I will use the power supply from the computer (bought b / a for 180 rubles). Nichrome wire I ordered the online store (10 m skein costs about 200 rubles), but also, it can be removed from the old boiler or electric kettle. Yet you need a cable length of 1 - 1.5 m, a piece of wood, some small weight, insulating tape, bolt M6, lamb, nut, screw and several washers.

Getting to the assembly. First of all the whole heap of wires coming out of the power supply, you need to take any black (-) and yellow (+) wire, bite them and expose.

To them, attach the piece of cable length of 1 - 1.5 m and isolate wire.

Now we need to take some weight on and make a handle.

As sinker I used a piece of a piece of wood and metal corner. The bar is twisted screw with washers. Washers are clamped between the second end of the earth cable and one end of the Nichrome wire.

For the manufacture of the handle, I picked up a pen from the hand-held jigsaw, some washers, metal lamb, and retainer nut lamb (with threaded rod handle). The handle of a hand-held jigsaw can be replaced by an ordinary wooden block by drilling a hole in it, and instead of the retainer can take a simple bolt M6.

On the pin retainer clothed puck, inserted it into the opening handle and the other hand to tighten the screws, connecting the second end of the positive lead (wire pinched between the handle and the washer). Then put a second washer and lamb. So it will be easy to remove and tighten the Nichrome wire. That the wire is not hanging, hooked it to the handle tape.

After a sinker and a pen ready, you need to choose the optimal length of nichrome wire. This can be done by (homogeneous electrical resistance conductor with a resistivity) Or the method of selection, which just I enjoyed.

But in the beginning I will tell one important point! When you connect the power supply to the network, it will not work. To start it will have to close the bridge green and black contacts. The jumper can be made from a piece of wire.

To choose the optimal length of Nichrome wire, you need to stretch it, securing the two screws. To one side, we attach the negative cable and enable power supply. On the other hand putting a positive lead wire, gradually moving it to the negative. So we do until the wire begins to heat up. I got a wire length of 20 cm. If you take a much shorter wire, it can damage the power supply or, at best, the wire will burn out quickly. If on the contrary - very long, it will heat up slightly and badly cut plywood.

When the wire length is chosen, fasten it to a body and the handle.
