My choice of material for the walls of the house. Lumber or frame?

Study of various types and kinds of materials for walls dealt with since the first access to the Internet. Interest even when there was no land in the property. Interest reason was precisely to the stone options, or something on the basis of concrete as a binder.

1. The walls of the timber and logs.

It is not considered as an option. But perhaps the information below and my opinion will be useful to someone.

In our region, at least half of the houses under construction - lumber. Apparently, people do not build and do not understand in advance the characteristics of the materials, do not compare them. It is believed that it is cheap and warm. Immediately I write what I have seen for myself cons of this material:

- installation complexity, placing one of the walls. Especially two-storey house. I need a crane or a winch or still hiring teams;

- home from a bar must be warm in our climate. Home from a bar 150mm without insulation will definitely be cold and will not pass on the heat requirements;

- imaginary ecology. The walls are all still need something to decorate the inside, such as drywall. Space remains between it and the bar. This is the place of residence of rodents and insects. Even if the walls are profiled or laminated veneer lumber, and they do not need to finish inside, the smell of wood, tar will still be very long. In the bath I was wrong. You come into the city and you feel that the clothes are soaked with the smell of resins.

- pozharopasnost. Here without comment;

- the cost of the timber. Every year growing by at least 10%. I remember that I acquired timber for a bath at the price 5000r / cubic meter. Now the price has already 8000r. While the cost on the basis of concrete blocks as a binder - 4-5 thousand / cubic meter.. True and the width of the walls are more than two times. On the volume of the box house walls get the same cost.

- ceiling of the first floor - the wooden beams. That's a bad sound insulation and trampoline floors.

- shrinkage of the house - up to 10% in the first year. And the house of timber will shrink his whole life.

There are varieties of wooden houses: corrugated board, laminated veneer lumber, round timber. This timber is factory processing and drying. Already practically does not shrink. But the cost of such material - is at least two times higher than a simple timber. A thermal performance all the same. Warm and make the facade in such a wooden house? Then why buy it? Hide the aesthetics and beauty of the material? For regions with mild winters - quite an option (if you do not eat the beetles). Either a centralized gas supply trunk.

Log houses from logs also not considered. I do not do that, the high cost of the work.

In the European part of Russia there was a novelty - termobrusa. This is when the inside timber is extruded polystyrene or mineral slab. The side faces of the timber fastened, fastened bar. Super warm material, as the manufacturer says! But in fact he did not pass the strength test, does not meet the requirements that apply to wooden structures.

It was convinced that the construction of houses of timber in different variations and processing - is the last century, though with modern chips. Choice at the time when there was no choice of so many kinds of wall materials.

2. The walls of frame technology.

For this technology gets quite warm and prefabricated houses. Canada, the US and Finland are in the lead in terms of being built private houses using this technology. But again - this tree, though with non-combustible insulation and beams themselves ognebiozaschitoy impregnated and sheathed OSB (oriented strand board). A big plus - you can heat with electricity. House as a thermos, heat loss from the walls of the minimum.

Cons are the same, plus add new ones:

- one I did not build, needs an assistant;

- Trampoline ceilings and insulation;

For the carcass home my attitude as a house of cards. Of course, everything is calculated and no strong and even a hurricane did not destroy. But if for something does not belong to the soul, as they say - it is better to go round.

3. SIP panels.

To be honest, I do not consider them at all. They seemed to me a kind of karkasnikov. And because the fuel heater. Which can be got mice and insects.

Yes - a warm, yes --fabricated house, yes - inexpensive cost of the walls. But if someone these criteria negate all the other cons - can build. Personally, I would not. I do not think it is material to the walls. Besides the cost of the walls - it is only 30% of the value of the home, but also its foundation.

I believe that all those who are building from this material - chase the low cost of the material of the walls in view of thermal conductivity. But all the other times for some reason do not notice.
