Greetings to all readers of the useful magazine Prorab. Online! Today I will tell you non-obvious facts about how useful is the competent orientation of a country house to the cardinal points.

I will clarify right away that the advice that I will give in this article is equally suitable for both the European part of Russia and Siberia, the Urals and the Far East.

Those from “ours” who live in the southern hemisphere (and we have readers even from Australia) should take into account local conditions and not be guided by the material from this article.

How to orient the house to the cardinal points?

North.

I'll start with the obvious - there is a lack of sun on the northern side, cold winter winds are blowing, the type of lighting is uniform reflected. This makes the location in the northern part of the house optimal:

• storage rooms, warehouses and wine cellars;
• office space for heating;
• garage.

In these rooms, it is allowed to use small windows for technical purposes, preferably with a double-glazed window.

East.

There is excellent lighting in the morning, a pleasant slow warming up in summer, but at the same time strong cooling in winter. That is why it is better to place here:

• bedroom (if your work is related to physical labor!);
• wardrobe;
• gym or swimming pool (for rich Buratin).

In the South-East, it is better to place the office of the owner of the house, you can successfully make a kitchen-dining room (appreciate the good insolation in the morning and at lunchtime!).

South.

This is the most valuable side of the house, there is a high midday sun in the summer day, and in winter the sun penetrates deep into the house due to the low angle of incidence.

In the southern part of the house I advise you to place:

• children's room
• Hall
• terraces or verandas
• winter Garden
• dining room.

West.

The side most exposed to precipitation. Another drawback is the deep penetration of light in the afternoon and, as a result, overheating of the premises.

The solution is to plant trees on the west side. And inside the house to equip stairs, corridors or small rooms for evening relaxation.
