True and False About Tomato Banana Legs

I grew it. The seeds were presented to me by the Agrofirma Partner for winning the competition. I wasn't going to write about Banana Legs. It was obvious:

The agrofirm grew those wonderful tomatoes that inspired many to buy seeds - it's true.
I've seen reviews from people I trust, videos and photos. They did it too - it's true.
My result is not that, why, I will write in more detail.
Many people complained about the variety. And the reason was in growing - this is my strong opinion based on personal experience.

There wouldn't be this article. However, it became interesting why one of the many varieties is so heatedly discussed? It turned out that mostly video ads added fuel to the fire.

So, I'll write what and why I had, and where, in my opinion, such a stir.

Our experience

Banana legs were grown by me and a boy neighbor. From one bag. Sowing is simultaneous. He got the very first tomato of this particular variety. He did not like the taste, there was a hard white core. Everything, as the dissatisfied channel authors write.

My Banana legs, let me remind you, from the same pack, were in no hurry to ripen, they had been ill with vertex rot. And the taste is normal. The skin was thin. The yield is average.

About taste. There are tomatoes with delicious taste: Your Honor F1, Cherry Colors F1, Apricotin and many others. Banana legs taste ordinary, only in moderation.

I gave up both Banana Legs and a dozen other varieties and hybrids at the same time solely because of the tendency to top rot. The lack of available calcium is a feature of our soil.

I sprayed it with calcium nitrate on the leaf, three times, most of the tomatoes evened out, but the elongated fruits suffered the most, including Banana legs. It is the elongated tomatoes that are most demanding on the availability of available calcium.

Root feeding with magnesium sulfate in the middle of summer also had a good effect on the taste.

Why is there such a difference with my neighbor? But because its hard core is a sign of calcium deficiency. He didn't fight it. They decided to ripen his tomatoes quickly, they turned out to be early ripening. And mine were in no hurry. Features of agricultural technology.

There is no point in growing Banana Legs in my conditions.

That the variety is bad is a lie. He's not an amateur. It is not good to write nasty things about him. Could not grow, your conditions do not suit the variety, do not sow it and forget it. It’s right to warn people that you didn’t succeed, but it’s wrong to scold.
