Secrets and tricks of experienced craftsmen. Useful tips for a home craftsman
Hello everyone! Today I have prepared for you an interesting selection of useful tips that many experienced craftsmen use. I am sure these secrets and tricks will come in handy when working in a workshop or repairing!
1. If, after the repair, you still have tubes with the remains of dried sealant, then do not rush to throw them away, because the hardened silicone can still serve.
We cut the tube with a clerical knife and take out the silicone from it (if it is not completely frozen, then give it time to dry). That's it, now you have a great pencil for cleaning grinding wheels and belts. Clogged sandpaper can be easily cleaned with this silicone pencil and can be reused.
2. If you need to nail in any thin board or rail, it is advisable to drill holes in it for nails before that so that it does not crack (especially near the edge).
But if there is no drill at hand and you need to avoid splitting the wood, then you can use another simple method. You just need to dull the sharp tip of the nail a little and when hammering it will not push the wood fibers apart, but wrinkle them and your product will not suffer.
3. It happens that it is very difficult to tear off a piece of sandpaper (if the basis is fabric) or this piece cannot be torn off exactly (if the basis is paper). But if you use a hand saw blade for metal, you will forget about this problem forever. All you need to do is fix the canvas with self-tapping screws to the wall of your workshop, placing washers under the holes. Now tearing off an even piece of sandpaper will not be difficult.
4. Some drill chucks cannot grip small diameter drills (1.5 - 2 mm) and therefore have to be tricky somehow.
An ampoule from the most ordinary pen will help you a lot with this. We cut off a piece of the ampoule and put it on the drill.
Now you can drill a small hole without any problems, because the drill chuck will grip the drill well.
5. If unwanted dents appear on the surface of the board, then do not rush to get rid of them by grinding, because in this case you can remove a very decent layer. There is another very effective method that has been proven over the years.
Minor damage can be removed with an iron. Put a wet rag on the damaged area and steam it well. Thanks to this operation, the fibers return to their original position and there will be no trace of dents.
6. You can quickly remove metal shavings from your workplace using a very simple advice. To do this, you just need to put the magnet in the bag.
When all the shavings are collected, it remains to turn the bag inside out. This way all the chips are inside the bag and the magnet remains clean.
