The American family moved from the apartment to a mobile house and do not regret it

Spencer Wright and Bela Fishbein, a married couple, rented an apartment in the San Francisco Bay Area two years ago and paid about $ 30,000 a year in rent. High spending and a desire to take root pushed the young family to the idea of purchasing their own home.

Background

A big house in the suburbs, with a white fence and a golden retriever, was out of the question. Spencer and Bela preferred long travel and did not have enough capital to buy traditional housing. Another reason for refusing to rent was the woman's pregnancy - it was time to decide what to do next.

Small but remote

So the family looked after a nice plot overlooking the Santa Cruz mountains and found a suitable contractor with a difficult task - build a mobile home of minimal space, but at the same time strong and practical, so that everything necessary for parents and child. Moreover, young people did not want a studio or a cottage on wheels - they dreamed of an unusual, in terms of architecture and design, nest for year-round living.

The result was developed project a house, divided into 9 residential areas - with a difference in floor level, steps, stairs, screen, shoji, curtain. At the same time, the total area of the object, in 2 floors, was only 300 square feet (almost 28 square meters). According to Bela, the owner of the new tiny house (a popular movement in the United States for building small mobile trailers for travel), in the new house she felt like a giant for a long time, but soon she got used to it and felt yourself comfortable. The fact is that the family house is thought out to the smallest detail. Although it took only 6 months from the idea to its implementation.

House of light

The author of the project is David Latimer of New Frontiers Tiny Homes. His Alpha model (the one the couple chose as the basis for their space) features access to an abundance of natural light. On one side of the house, a large garage door opens onto a 350-square-foot (just over 32 square meters) "deck" decorated with flowers. On the opposite side there is a sliding glass door. The rooms are light and cozy, and the view of the Santa Cruz landscape makes being in the house especially pleasant.

Separate bedroom for daughter

Soon after settling in, the couple had a daughter, Escher. This prompted the parents to complete the construction of a small attic opposite their bedroom. So the problem of a separate room was solved so that the baby had a personal space. The nursery has a bed with a curtain, two small corner shelves for toys and books, and a small basket.

Of course, there is too little room for clutter on the floor, so the number of things is strictly limited. But, according to the mother, this benefited the family budget, the correct upbringing of the child and the development of the child's imagination. In addition, Bela believes, children are less capricious in such conditions - although relatives and friends try to buy the girl more toys.

Small kitchen and proper nutrition

Spencer Wright worked as a professional chef and the carefully crafted menu naturally became his task. Basically, the family's food consists of farm products that are purchased at the market once a week - there is no place to store food in a larger volume.

The absence of junk and frozen food, which usually fills the cupboards and freezer, also helps in organizing a small kitchen space. Here you can find everything only the most necessary, there are no blades of different sizes, an abundance of pots. But, as the family admits, this is quite enough for three people.

Saving?

The tiny area of the house allowed the new settlers to purchase more expensive furniture and dishes, since spending on other things (bills, etc.) is minimal. At the same time, the family still has funds to travel around California. The house is characterized by mobility.
