A detailed photo report on the construction of a stylish firewood - when the first "pancake" is not lumpy

With the construction of a house, the process of arranging the site is just beginning. Time appears and hands reach the auxiliary buildings. For example, a woodshed, which will be not only multifunctional, but also stylish so as not to spoil the view. And in order to work well, it is not necessary to have experience, it is enough to really want.

Firewood parameters, "visualization"

Finally, the construction of the house was completed and it became clear that it was time to make a normal firewood. For the old one, whipped together from the remnants of boards and reinforced polyethylene, although it served faithfully for 2 years, no longer matched stylistically. I will say right away that until this moment I had not built anything like this with my own hands, but I saw how others do it, since I have something to do with construction. It became interesting to me to build a woodshed alone, without any outside help.

Old woodshed (yes, it was snowing in winter then)
Old woodshed (yes, it was snowing in winter then)

The new woodcutter had to meet a number of requirements.

  • Visually match the style of the home.
  • In addition to the woodpile room itself, include a pantry for garden tools.
  • Near the house, so as not to carry firewood across the yard.
  • So that you can drive to the building by truck, if in the future you will have to buy firewood, and not harvest it.

Dmitry took into account all the "Wishlist" when he drew sketches. In the final version, a wood log was obtained: with dimensions of 5x2.5 m, a large roof slope (for metal tiles are needed from 14 degrees), above the fence, so that snow falls from the roof with a dump truck beyond the perimeter plot.

Foundation, strapping, logs, floor

At the construction site of the firewood, during the construction of the drainage system of the site, a "pillow" of ASG was made: a layer of sand, a layer of crushed stone, a layer of screening, with tamping and separation with geotextiles. Such a foundation is quite enough for a light firewood, so Dmitry just installed concrete blocks on top. Roofing material was laid under the blocks and on them for waterproofing.

The harness was assembled from a bar previously impregnated with an antiseptic (XM-11). Drilled through holes in the concrete and anchored the base. I chose the grooves for the logs, processed it with the same composition, then impregnated the logs and assembled the overlap.

The floor was made of grooved boards in order to increase rigidity due to groove fixing. Most of the time was spent on impregnating and painting the boards, plus, we had to follow the forecast so that they had time to dry. When assembling, the habit of purchasing material with a margin completely justified itself - there were many "helicopters" in the batch, which could not be docked, but thanks to the surplus, it was possible to choose the right amount. I fastened the boards to the logs with self-tapping screws: I aligned them along one edge, the other, and then cut them evenly with a circular.

Frame assembly, rafters, painting

Racks from the same timber that went to the harness, the frame from the remnants of a grooved board. It became inconvenient to assemble into one helmet, but everything worked out. The process has greatly simplified the laser level with vertical skip.

How to simplify the work with metal tiles in one

To work on metal tiles, I waited several days of calm weather. I really didn’t want the leaf to fly away from me (or with me) from the roof. The sheets turned out to be quite heavy (I chose thick metal). But this is good, I would definitely bend it somewhere during lifting and installation. In order not to bend the sheets while carrying, I built a quick-detachable frame.
I assembled the guides for lifting sheets to the roof from boards.

To simplify, I drilled holes in the metal tile, and a carbine with a rope in the holes. The metal is thick, the holes will still be closed by the front corner.

The temporary filly "made life easier for the self-builder" - they served as an emphasis for the sheet so that it did not fall off and it could be freely moved along the crate during installation. The scheme and adaptations fully justified themselves - the roof is covered "in the bottom of the face" almost in a day.

Painting, plating, painting

Dmitry built himself, plus, innate perfectionism, therefore: first cutting, painting, drying, and only then - sheathing the frame.

I built it for the soul, for myself. I could just hire people, but it became interesting to try to do well myself. As in the well-known saying - "Try to do well, it will turn out badly!"

The walls in the pantry were sheathed tightly, with imitation of timber, and in the storage room, with a board, at intervals, for ventilation.

The covered woodshed was covered with a second coat of VINHA paint to achieve the desired tone. The floors were treated with VALLTI terrace oil.

Firewood operation

Snow has not been seen in St. Petersburg this year either, which is why it was not possible to check the structure for "sweeping". If he suddenly does sweep, Dmitry will install a roller shutter that rolls up. He did not make a slit floor in principle, did not want to, as shown by numerous rains, during the assembly process, the puddles do not stand, they go through the grooves. The distance to the ground from the floor is about 20 cm, more than enough for drying from below, plus, a powerful antiseptic will hedge. He covered the floors with oil rather for aesthetic reasons - on the terrace the same color, in the same style.

The problem arose only with the door, the cheapest coniferous shield is bursting due to moisture, despite the multi-layer impregnation and painting, and the gaps on each side are 1.5 cm. The door periodically wedges, and after re-grinding it began to crackle. Most likely, next season the woodcutter will acquire a more expensive door leaf, no matter how much you want to save money.
