In Norway, it is very common when grass grows on the roof of houses. And this is not a couple of blades of grass or bushes. The roof is completely wrapped in a thick layer of turf, on which a "green carpet" of small grass and small meadow flowers is spread. It all looks incredibly beautiful and unusual. It is over now in the modern world, such houses are found most often in villages and small towns. But many people remember this tradition, and they still cover the roof with sod and grass.

Where did this idea come from? For a long time, the roof of houses in Norway was protected from water using birch bark. It was excellent for moisture insulation. The outer part of the bark was applied to the roof. After laying with bark, covered with a large layer of turf to provide warmth in the house. Over time, grass and small plants grew in the sod, their roots strengthened the roof structure and made it stronger.
