The exorbitant prices of onion sets in the market made me experiment with onion planting. For a kilogram of such planting material, sellers requested 350, or even all 400 rubles per kilogram. If you come to a vegetable fair in the fall, then for the same money you can buy 1.5 dozen kilograms of good large onions. So it is worth thinking about what is more profitable.

Last year I harvested a fairly good harvest of onions, and they are perfectly preserved. The decision was ripe spontaneously. It is not worth spending money on buying a set, as the prices for it are simply prohibitive. I decided to plant my own preserved material. The onions last year were of excellent quality, with large heads, so I decided to cut each onion into 4 parts when planting.

At first, I doubted whether it was possible to plant onions in this way. But when I remembered planting cut potato tubers, my confidence in success strengthened in me. By the way, the old people said that this is how they used to plant onions, while getting good harvests. For some reason, this method is not very popular.

But when planting onions in this way, certain requirements must be observed:

Before landing, the bow is arranged a kind of "casting". Only good, strong bulbs are suitable for planting. The bulb should not be too dry and rotten, but should look absolutely healthy.

Before planting, the seed must be decontaminated. It should be soaked, for example, in a solution of potassium permanganate. Bordeaux liquid is quite suitable for this purpose. Other methods can be used.

Before planting, the bulb is freed from excess scales and cut into 4 parts. But on each of them there should be a piece of the spine.

Planting is carried out in prepared beds. If someone is afraid that the planting material will rot, you can treat the cut with ash or crushed coal. Even if a large set is being planted, it can also be cut.

I was convinced that when planting onions in this way, it does not lag behind in growth and development at all from the planted set. In terms of volume, the harvest will be much larger, since onions grow simply with enormous head sizes. Anyone who is interested in this method should try to use it in their garden.
