Wooden bricks. New wall material for DIY construction
Many people strive to build a wooden house, a house from a bar. But construction from it is difficult, a raw timber cannot be lifted alone without a crane and winches. When building a bath, you can still throw and drag in a bar, although it is also difficult. Hiring a crew is an additional cost. An experienced team, who know how to build log houses, may ask for 1/3 of the cost of the material. There is one way - this is Wood Brick technology.
Wooden bricks are pieces of laminated veneer lumber (on average 650x190x60 mm) with a profile surface for connecting a thorn-groove on all planes. Building one of these wooden blocks is not difficult work.
The planed facade of such a house also looks beautiful. What are the blocks fastened to? The elements are fastened into the thorn-groove without insulation. Fix each block with a dowel - too long and unnecessary. I would fasten with glue-foam. Bonding with polyurethane foam adhesive also prevents microblowing in the seams.
Another advantage of this technology: the elements do not "twist with a screw" as in the timber when drying out and the walls almost do not shrink. But the price spoils everything. The cost of such elements: from 20 thousand / m3. The price is comparable to laminated veneer lumber. Saving in the construction of the walls of a house from "wooden bricks" is possible only if you build yourself.
Advice: do not cover wooden facades with dark impregnations and wood stains. Resin on the sunny side will start to flow out of the knots and the facade will deteriorate. Select the colors of the impregnations as close as possible to the color of the resin.
The interior looks like wood panels.
Different manufacturers have different options for making such blocks. Some are made from laminated veneer lumber, others from solid.
The process of making wooden blocks. It is clear that the price cannot be low: wood dried in chambers, a lot of manual labor. And manufacturing from scrap and waste is an even more laborious process.
Wooden brick walls will be slightly cheaper using such a frame technology.
Ecowool is poured inside. But for such walls, a frame is needed and insulation can shrink over time. The insulation itself can absorb moisture from the premises and lose its properties.
