Why is a PVC film ceiling better than drywall
There are a lot of ceiling design options. But, you see, no one is painting the floor slab anymore. Now, either gypsum plasterboard suspension systems or PVC tension systems are popular. With their help, you can hide communications, for example, a ventilation pipe or electrical wiring, make a multi-level structure or hidden lighting.
What type of ceiling - PVC or plasterboard - to choose? It will be discussed in this post.
How high to lower
Most of us live in apartments with low ceilings - 2.6-2.7 meters. Both PVC film and drywall are lowered from the floor slab, making the room slightly lower: the only question is how much.
First, let's figure out what stretch ceilings are made of thin polyvinyl chloride film - no more than 0.35 mm. Plasterboard suspension systems are assembled from sheets with a minimum thickness of 9.5 mm. Both those and other structures are optimally fastened to a height of about 4 cm. But stretch canvases, with a great desire and the skill of a specialist, can be lowered by only 1.5 cm.
Conclusion: stretch PVC ceilings save a few sentiments in height.
Which is more expensive
Definitely - a stretch ceiling made of film is more expensive. By about 25%. But even here you can find a compromise: depending on what kind of repair you started. For example, many levels, a combination of several colors and hidden lighting in drywall cost more than a matte white PVC ceiling.
Which is safer
Polyvinyl chloride - doesn't sound very good. Drywall seems to be safer. In fact, both the one and the other material have the right to be in any room, even a nursery. PVC film manufacturers must provide a quality certificate upon purchase. If the material meets international ISO standards, there is no need to worry. But if the master offers you Chinese cheap PVC without "documents", there is a reason to sound the alarm.
Plasterboard plates do not need to be checked for a certificate at all, because they are made of paper and plaster.
Conclusion: the ceiling made of plasterboard is environmentally friendly, better than a film made of polyvinyl chloride.
On the other hand, if we talk about safety, the PVC film ceiling is not afraid of moisture. If you are flooded by the neighbors from above, all the water will collect in a "bubble", you will not have to change furniture and make repairs. One square meter of film can withstand up to 10 liters of water.
Conclusion: the ceiling made of PVC film will save you from repair when flooded by a neighbor from above.
