When is it better to dig an Onion in August: what the lunar calendar says about it. Do you stick to it?
Harvesting is the time to be proud of yourself. But, of course, you need to harvest and preserve everything grown well. And for this, timing is of great importance.
For several years I could not guess with a bow! Then a neighbor last year advised me to look into the Lunar calendar... And the results were very interesting!
A favorable time in 2020 comes on August 9 - the moon is waning, which has a positive effect on the subsequent process of drying and storing the onion crop.
Other good days for digging up bulbs are August 10, 13, 16, 21 and 28.
There are also bad dates in the lunar calendar. For onions, this is the period from 4 to 6 August - they say that vegetables extracted from the ground at this time are not stored for long, deteriorate from rot.
It is also curious that, according to popular beliefs, onions harvested on the new moon, that is, on August 19, are distinguished by a special tasty juiciness and a high content of vitamins. And the whole point is that the young, "newborn" moon inhibits biological processes in the terrestrial part of plants, redirecting all their forces to the underground parts.
Having highlighted the main rules about onions in the August lunar calendar, I want to note that science, recognizing some influence of the Earth's satellite on plants, negates its detailed significance for agricultural work.
It is also interesting that the lunar calendar in the form as we know it did not exist in past centuries - then rather just focused on the phases of the growth of the moon and on the signs of the weather, the state of wild plants, the behavior of birds and animals.
In my opinion, despite the lunar calendar, it is also a must to watch so that the onion has all the signs that it is ready to harvest. That is, so that his feathers wilted, so that the part of the turnip protruding from the ground is dry.
And of course, even if this is the most favorable day on the moon, you cannot harvest the vegetable on it, if the weather is wet, rainy, it should be clear.
Summing up the topic, I want to say that the bow removed according to the Lunar calendar is quite good. True, I did not notice a particularly delicious taste in him. But it was stored better, longer!
Although, maybe it's all about the good weather of late summer and the observance of the rules of agricultural technology? I don't think I will stick to the lunar calendar in everything, but using it sometimes can be good.
