Are the leaves of the Geranium turning red? I tell you how to quickly help the Plant without any problems

click fraud protection

Geranium or pelargonium is a very unpretentious plant, but it can also have problems with improper care or disease.

The reddening of the leaves just signals this.

When I choose a geranium, I immediately pay attention to its variety. There may be several of them:

  • light-loving;
  • shade-loving;
  • drought-resistant.

It is important to understand that each individual flower needs its own conditions and proper care. For example, if a light-loving geranium is placed on the north side, then it will feel unwell.

The most telling indicator of favorable growth and development is appearance. It is important to remove faded inflorescences, pinch young shoots, remove old shoots in time.

Why do the leaves turn red

Reddening of the leaves can signal various problems. Moreover, this phenomenon can be observed partially or everywhere.

From the edges

Hypothermia is the first factor in these problems. Temperatures below 18 degrees provoke the appearance of redness and further leaf fall.

The flower must be removed from the cold window. If it grows on the street, then provide insulation. When planting in open ground, you should take care of covering the flower in the cold period.

In the form of spots

This is facilitated by the following factors:

  • Excess lighting. The abundance of sunlight negatively affects even light-resistant species. Moreover, old leaves are most susceptible to this. Young people are more stable in this respect. You can save the flower by simply moving it to a more shaded place.
  • Waterlogging of the soil also affects the well-being of the plant. Abundant watering often provokes root rot. Its source is mushrooms that appear at the level of the root system.
  • They interfere with the supply of essential nutrients to the flower. Only healthy flowers are not susceptible to infection.
The further the mushrooms penetrate, the more altered the flower will be. The leaves are covered with orange and brown-red spots.

Complete redness

  • Insufficient amount of macro- and microelements, nutrients. For example, lack of calcium, nitrogen and boron.
  • Plant keeping conditions. This depends a lot on how you water, the quality of the water, the size and shape of the pot.
  • Elevated pH. For the plant to feel normal, this indicator must be adjusted.

To prevent such situations, it is recommended to monitor the soil moisture, if necessary, change the growing conditions, monitor the pH level (ideally, the range is from 5.5 to 6.5).

Be sure to check for fungi and, if necessary, pick up another pot and change the soil.
