Do Americans wear shoes around the house after their "clean" streets? We answer the question
In American films, you can see people walking around the house in shoes. And they not only walk, but also sit on the sofa and even lie down on the bed! Because of this, we have matured the myth of the crystal-clear streets of the United States, which utilities daily and thoroughly wash with soap and water. Oh, we ought to live like that! But this America is Hollywood, and what happens in reality - read on.
On the "crystal purity" of the streets
The streets in the United States have never been crystal clear. There, there are regular strikes of garbage collectors, then the migrants who come in large numbers bring in a part of their "culture". In general, dirty streets and garbage dumps in cities are the harsh American reality. And in places where homeless people live, complete unsanitary conditions reign, attracting rats and insects.
But among all the minuses, there are pluses. In the United States, most cities are paved and equipped with sidewalks - there is practically no open ground here. Slush, as in our cities - you will not find. Therefore, on shoes home, more likely, you can bring gum stuck to the sole than a kilogram of clay, as is usual with us.
In addition, the United States is a country of private transport and here most of the population travels by car. Keeping shoes relatively clean (free from clay and dirt) is much easier in American cities. Based on this information, it can be assumed that they still walk around in their shoes in shoes. But this is far from the case.
About walking around the house in shoes
To begin with, Americans are simply outraged by the stereotype imposed by Hollywood. They hate being in shoes at home, and even more so they do not understand how they can climb onto the bed in shoes. No matter how badly we think about the people of the United States, they are extremely clean.
The vast majority of Americans take off their shoes at home. But they do it not like we do - on the doorstep or in the hallway, but in the dressing room. In the layouts of large American private houses and apartments, there is a passage to the dressing room, which bypasses common areas (living room, kitchen, hall). So you don't have to trample carpet or carpets in dirty shoes. As they say, everything is thought out here!
But there are exceptions - these are parties. Those invited to the festivities can walk around the house in shoes. This is accepted here for two reasons. First: so that guests do not feel at home (this cannot be explained). Second: so that the invitees do not have complexes, for example, because of the bad smell of socks or a bad pedicure. This is done out of good intentions so that the guest feels as comfortable as possible, and God forbid, there are no uncomfortable situations.
