How to water garlic in July to get large heads

A month before harvesting the garlic, you need to feed it so that the harvest will please you. If you see the tips of the green feather start to dry out, then this is normal. Thus, there is an outflow of nutrients (assimilates or plastic substances) from the leaves into the bulbs, which enlarges the head in size.

At the end of June, the division of the head into teeth begins, the bulb already has a pronounced tuberosity.

Soil condition

The soil should always be moist in the garden, therefore experts recommend mulching the soil. It is necessary to carry out 6-7 abundant watering per season. Moistening is stopped 2 weeks before harvesting the garlic.

Removing arrows

As soon as the arrows appear, they need to be removed. From the base, it is necessary to leave about 8-10 cm. Seeds must not be allowed to form on the arrow, otherwise this will affect the size of the head not for the better.

How to feed

In the spring, nitrogen fertilizers (chicken droppings, urea) are applied under the garlic to build up the green mass. A month before harvesting, you need to use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, nitrogen should be excluded, since it will worsen the keeping quality of the bulbs in the autumn-winter time, and garlic in this case can get sick. Potassium promotes a better outflow of assimilants from the green mass into the heads.

Ash is considered a good natural mineral fertilizer. She will need a glass for a bucket of water. The prepared solution should be watered at the root of the plants.

Potassium sulfate is also suitable as a top dressing. It will take 20 grams of substance per 10 liters of water. Before fertilizing, the soil must be shed and loosened so that the finished solution does not roll off the side of the garden bed. These top dressing will noticeably increase the head in size, so the harvest of garlic will delight you.
