Making a simple solid sofa with your own hands in a home workshop. Base for cushions. Part 3

click fraud protection

In this part about making a sofa in a home workshop, it will be about making a base for sofa cushions.

Let me remind you that I made this sofa six years ago, and then my home workshop was just being formed and I actively used home-made devices.

The base for the cushions is simply a wooden frame to which the plywood is attached.

I laid the boards for these frames wide and decided to join them in the floor of the tree. With a board width of 120 mm. the connection of such a frame to the floor of a tree in itself gives a solid structure, and plywood sets even more rigidity.

It is convenient to make a selection in the board on a circular saw using a slide. Saw overhang is adjustable to half the board thickness.

If the board is straight enough, then the cuts can be made after about 10 mm, but if a knot comes across in this area, then it is better to make the cuts as tightly as possible.

The resulting comb can be easily knocked out with a hammer, and trimmed with a chisel or rasp.

Further, the frames are glued together, but before gluing you need to remember to tidy up the edges of the boards: sand or walk with a plane, since after assembly it will be more difficult to do.

After drying, the plywood needs to be fixed onto the frames and these parts can be set aside.

It is interesting

Last year, the channel had a series of posts on making a bathroom cabinet. Who is interested can see link.

And even earlier, there was a series of articles on making a durable, reliable stool. You can see here.

And more recently it was series about chair making.

Thanks for reading. I would be glad to have your support in the form of a like and a subscription to the channel. And see other publications on the channel.
