How to dedust a concrete floor: a recipe for an effective and inexpensive impregnation

During operation, the concrete floor is exposed to mechanical and chemical influences. As a result, the surface layer of concrete collapses, breaking down into components of various fractions. In addition, in the pores of the concrete there are cement particles that have not reacted with water during the preparation of the mortar. What is the meaning of this method?

The top layer of the concrete screed can be dedusted by treating it with a special impregnation. In liquid form, this composition penetrates into the pores and microcracks of concrete; when hardening, it binds and strengthens the structure, creates a thin and durable polymer film on the surface.

The film has waterproofing property - does not pass moisture into the structure of the material, as well as protective - minimizes abrasive loads on the floor. As a result, dust formation is almost completely reduced and the service life of the concrete floor is significantly extended.

How to make a dedusting agent for concrete floor?

For the manufacture of impregnation, the following materials are required:

• gasoline (AI-95) - 5 liters;
• xylene - 1.5 liters;
• polystyrene - an approximate amount of 0.4 m³.

Pour gasoline into a suitable container (preferably metal and with a lid) and dissolve the foam in small portions. During this operation, it is necessary to constantly mix the composition. At the exit, you should get a white thick mass, similar in consistency to wallpaper glue.

Add 1.2 liters of xylene, mix well, cover and leave for 20 minutes. The finished composition should resemble varnish in consistency. If it turns out to be thick, add more xylene and bring the composition to the desired consistency. At this, the impregnation is ready, you can apply!

How to apply impregnation to concrete?

Before application, the surface must be cleaned and dust-free. The best option is to use a construction vacuum cleaner. If not, then you should thoroughly sweep the floors with a wet broom and let them dry completely. If there are oily or other greasy stains on the floor, treat these areas with thinner or gasoline. Apply impregnation with a brush or roller in one layer.

The time for the complete drying of the impregnation is 10–12 hours. But it is better to let the floor stand for a day. Do not forget to ventilate the area during the application and drying of the impregnation. Remember: it contains toxic substances!
