Let's try to do without fertilizers in a small garden this year, what I will use instead
In recent days, there have been constant reports in the press that a crop failure is expected in the world in 2022. A crop failure is expected because the delivery of fertilizers to different countries is difficult, and agricultural producers around the world are tearing their hair out in advance. Somehow we think little about the role that fertilizers play on an industrial scale.
Personally, I use very little mineral fertilizers in my area - this is superphosphate when planting for the root system. Also, under the flowers, I pour and pour a lot of complex fertilizer. After all, I don’t eat flowers, so you can pour anything into the flower beds.
I mainly use organic fertilizers. Because of this, the increase in prices for packages of mineral supplements does not put me in a stupor.
For beginner gardeners, I will tell you how I use natural fertilizers.
1. The most important thing is compost. Not a single blade of grass goes to waste. Absolutely all the grass, after weeding, or mowing, I collect and send to the compost heap. I have three such piles. One fresh, which I fill the whole season. The second is last year's, which is rotting. The third is the year before last, which I begin to use for fertilizer. Even I, a gardener with 30 years of experience, always get excited when I dig up compost and see soil there without the slightest sign of plant debris. But I know that there was only grass and branches.
2. At the beginning of summer, I definitely make liquid fertilizer - I fill a barrel, or even a bucket, with grass, add a tablespoon of yeast, fill it with water, close the lid on top and leave it for a week. All this mass wanders and it turns out a very smelly, but completely unique fertilizer, which I dilute in proportion - a liter per 8 liters (I have such a watering can) of water. Cucumbers from him - just delighted. And other cultures will respond positively.
3. Eggshells are a source of calcium.
4. Wood ash - all season in the garden.
Using these stocks, you do not need to buy store-bought fertilizers.
